Full-motion arm on a shiplap fireplace wall

The side view shows why this one got an arm: the room is open to the kitchen, so the screen swings to face the island as easily as the sofa. The arm's plate is bolted through the shiplap into the studs, and the arm was run through its full travel under load before the customer signed off.

A panelled wall is treated as a skin: the magnet finds the nails that hold it to the framing, the bracket's holes are placed on those stud lines, and long lag bolts pass through the panel into the wood. The TV hangs on the house, not on the panel.

An articulating arm multiplies the load at the top of the plate, so it always goes into two studs with lag bolts and gets a loaded range-of-motion test before we leave. The payoff is a screen that faces the kitchen, the bar or the bed on demand.

Above a working fireplace we check the heat first: the unit is burned for 20 minutes and an infrared reading is taken at bracket height, because a surround that climbs past 100 degrees will cook a panel. Electric and gas-insert fireplaces run cooler; a wood-burner that reads hot gets a pull-down mount instead.
