Charlotte walls: brick veneer and mill-town plaster
Brick veneer over wood studs is the Charlotte-area default, in 1980s ranches and 2010s tract alike, so most installs are plain stud work with no surcharge. The old mill and rail towns add plaster, and the newest subdivisions trade brick for vinyl or fiber-cement siding.

- Mill houses in Gastonia and Belmont have plaster. Is that a problem?
- No. Plaster over wood lath hides the framing from most stud finders, so the installer locates the studs before drilling and lags the bracket into them. It takes longer than drywall and costs the same.
