Tampa Bay walls: block, plaster and beach condos
Most houses here are concrete block with drywall on furring strips, so the bracket is anchored into the block itself. Two-story homes from the 1990s on usually switch to wood studs upstairs. The pre-war streets of St. Petersburg, Tampa and Tarpon Springs still have lath-and-plaster, the beach towers are concrete and metal stud, and the barrier islands are full of homes gutted to the block after Helene and rebuilt with fresh drywall.
- Concrete block +$99 masonry surcharge
- The post-1950 block houses that fill Largo, Pinellas Park, Seminole, Brandon, Town 'n' Country and Carrollwood.
- How it is mounted: Masonry anchors set in the block with a hammer drill.
- Mounting on concrete and block
- Stucco over wood framing No surcharge
- The wood-frame second floors of Riverview, Westchase, FishHawk and Wesley Chapel, with block below.
- How it is mounted: Drywall on wood studs on the inside, so lag bolts into the studs.
- When drywall alone is enough
- Plaster and lath No surcharge
- The 1920s bungalows of Old Northeast and Kenwood in St. Petersburg, the Tarpon Springs historic district and Pass-a-Grille.
- How it is mounted: Studs located first, since plaster fools most stud finders, then lag bolts into them.
- Finding studs behind plaster
- Plaster on block or clay tile +$99 masonry surcharge
- The 1950s and 1960s ranches of Gulfport, Pinellas Park and Temple Terrace, where plaster went straight onto the block.
- How it is mounted: Masonry anchors through the plaster into the block.
- Mounting on concrete and block
- Metal studs No surcharge
- The condo towers of downtown St. Petersburg, Clearwater Beach and Treasure Island.
- How it is mounted: Toggle bolts through the steel, since lag bolts strip in thin metal.
- Mounting on metal studs
Tarpon Springs, Plant City and Temple Terrace keep their 1880s to 1920s cores. St. Petersburg boomed in the 1920s and filled in with block ranches through the 1970s. Brandon, Carrollwood and Town 'n' Country are 1960s to 1980s subdivisions, and Riverview, Westchase, FishHawk and Wesley Chapel were built from the 1990s on.

Tampa Bay questions
- How much does TV mounting cost in Tampa Bay?
- By screen size, in every one of the 35 communities: $129 up to 54 inches, $159 for 55-69 inches, $209 for 70-79 inches, $299 for 80-99 inches and $399 for 100 inches and up. Block walls carry the $99 masonry surcharge. Priced out on a typical Largo block wall: a 65-inch TV on a concrete block wall with our flat bracket and in-wall wire concealment comes to $159 + $99 + $69 + $99 = $426.
- My wall is concrete block. Does that change the install?
- Only the anchors. The installer drills the block with a hammer drill and sets masonry anchors, and the $99 surcharge applies. On a two-story house the upstairs walls are usually wood studs, which take lag bolts at the standard rate.
- Who shows up for a St. Petersburg or Clearwater job?
- Someone from the vetted Pinellas County network, sent by Express Mounting rather than found on your own. The quote you were given is the rate the installer works to, and the 3-year workmanship warranty stays with Express Mounting, not with the individual installer.
- Can you mount a TV on a lanai or a screened patio?
- Yes. Covered lanais get an outdoor-rated bracket and a weather-rated cable run, and on the barrier islands the installer uses stainless hardware because of the salt air. The TV itself needs to be an outdoor model or sit fully under cover.
- Is same-day available in Brandon and Wesley Chapel?
- Yes. Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco all follow the before-noon rule. Once the booking is confirmed, the installer arrives within 2-4 hours.
