Houston walls: brick veneer, shiplap and flood-cut drywall
Suburban Houston builds in brick veneer on wood framing, with drywall on the inside, so most installs are straightforward stud work. Inside the Loop the older houses bring plaster and shiplap, the Galleria towers bring metal studs, and in flood-hit neighborhoods the drywall may be newer than the framing behind it.

- Yes, though not with an ordinary stud finder. The shiplap under the drywall reads as solid wood from end to end, so the framing is located another way before anything is drilled. It costs the same as any stud wall.
