Houston walls: brick veneer, shiplap and flood-cut drywall

Suburban Houston builds in brick veneer on wood framing, with drywall on the inside, so most installs are straightforward stud work. Inside the Loop the older houses bring plaster and shiplap, the Galleria towers bring metal studs, and in flood-hit neighborhoods the drywall may be newer than the framing behind it.

Inside the Loop or out, the rates are $129 up to 54 inches, $159 for 55-69 inches, $209 for 70-79 inches, $299 for 80-94 inches and $399 for 95 inches and up (2 technicians). Hiding the wires in the wall is $99. As one example, a 75-inch TV on suburban drywall with in-wall wire concealment comes to $209 + $99 = $308.

Who does the install in Houston?

My walls were redone after a flood. Does that matter?

It can. A flood cut replaces the drywall two or four feet up, which leaves a taped seam right where brackets tend to go, and a rebuilt wall is not always framed where you would expect. The installer probes for the studs before cutting or drilling.

Can you find the studs in a Heights bungalow?

Yes, though not with an ordinary stud finder. The shiplap under the drywall reads as solid wood from end to end, so the framing is located another way before anything is drilled. It costs the same as any stud wall.

Is same-day available in Katy, Sugar Land and The Woodlands?

Yes. The suburbs run on the same rule as the city: book before noon, and expect the installer within 2-4 hours of confirming.
