Puget Sound walls: plaster, shiplap and drywall
Most houses around the Sound are wood-framed with drywall, from post-war ranches to new plateau tract, so the usual install is lag bolts into studs. The older towns are the exception: Tacoma, Everett and Snohomish still have plaster and lath, sometimes with shiplap sheathing behind it.

- Do stud finders work on plaster and shiplap?
- Not well. Plaster over lath confuses an electronic stud finder, and shiplap sheathing reads as solid wood along its whole length. The installer locates the real framing first, then lags the bracket into it, at no extra charge.
- Who does the install in the Seattle area?
