Outdoor TV on a shingle porch wall

A covered porch with a vaulted wood ceiling and white shingle siding. The lag bolts went through the shingles into the wall framing behind them, with the bracket shimmed so the shingle courses did not rack it out of level, and the holes sealed against the weather that reaches a porch wall.

The planks are not the structure, so the lag bolts go through them into the framing behind. The plate was shimmed where the boards stepped, levelled, and the holes through the exterior skin were sealed against weather.

Tilt is the answer when the wall puts the TV above the viewer: the picture is angled down to the seat, glare from windows and lights is reduced, and the bracket still sits close to the wall.

Outdoor and porch installs use weather-rated anchors and hardware, every hole through an exterior skin is sealed, and the screen is placed under cover and angled away from direct sun where the room allows.
