Field notes from Lakewood installs
Lakewood work sorts into three piles. The lakes district around Gravelly Lake and American Lake runs to 1940s to 1960s ramblers, cottages, and mid-century lake homes: drywall over dense Douglas fir framing, shiplap sheathing on many exterior walls, brick accents and full-height fireplaces on the nicer builds. A thinner layer of older houses near the water still carries plaster-and-lath. Then the rental and apartment stock through Tillicum and around Oakbrook, where the lease matters as much as the wall does.
Your installer matches hardware to each. Cobalt pilots and lag bolts in fir, slow stepped drilling in plaster, concrete screws in brick, rated toggles only as accessory anchors on light panels. Additions on lakefront lots get probed before anything is cut, because a former exterior wall buried inside a remodel will stop a fish tape cold.
Two constants. Seismic discipline: anchors into framing, four-point patterns on large panels, no drywall-only mounting on a heavy TV. And the weather: sealed penetrations, outdoor-rated cable on covered decks, corrosion-resistant hardware anywhere wind pushes rain at a wall. Because Joint Base Lewis-McChord is next door, Lakewood keeps us busy in both directions: mounting for families arriving, dismounting and patching for the ones shipping out.
