Field notes from Atlanta installs
Atlanta is not one housing stock, it is about six of them stacked inside the perimeter. Joel Hurt began planning Inman Park in 1884 and sold the first lots in 1889, and those Victorian homes still carry 1880s plaster-on-lath. We work them with 4-inch lag bolts and pilot-bit probing rather than trusting an electronic stud finder, which misreads through lath more often than it reads right. Grant Park, founded in 1882, behaves the same way, and so do the Craftsman bungalows east of the park.
Midtown is a different trade altogether. The high-rises along Peachtree and West Peachtree are poured concrete, so we core-drill with an SDS-Plus rotary hammer and set 3/8-inch wedge anchors rated 200+ lb each, booked inside whatever noise window the building runs. Buckhead masonry fireplaces on West Paces Ferry and through Tuxedo Park are solid brick or natural stone over mortar, so cables get core-drilled through the mortar joints, never through brick faces.
Everything built after the mid-1950s, which covers the ranch stock in Morningside and most infill around the city, is gypsum board over pine studs at 16 inches on center. Red clay outside, drywall inside, and usually under an hour on the clock.
TV mounting prices in Atlanta
Atlanta TV mounting is $129 up to 54”, $159 for 55-69”, $209 for 70-79”, and $255 for 80” and up. Cable concealment is $95 per TV, a full-motion mount adds $72, and soundbar installation is $79. Brick, stone and concrete carry the published +$99 masonry surcharge, which covers most Buckhead and Morningside fireplace walls and the exposed brick in a Westside loft. Plaster, drywall and metal stud carry no surcharge at all, so an Inman Park plaster job is priced the same as a new-build drywall job. No travel fee anywhere in the city.
