Lilburn was called McDaniel until about 1896, when it took the name of Lilburn Trigg Myers, a Seaboard Air Line superintendent whose railroad had run its first passenger train through here in 1892. The town incorporated on July 27, 1910, and the tracks still run past Main Street. None of that is what sits behind most Lilburn drywall, though. Fewer than one percent of the city's 5,448 housing units predate 1940, and the median house here was built in 1986, which makes the standard Lilburn wall gypsum board over 2x4 pine studs at 16 inches on center. Along Killian Hill Road and Rockbridge Road that is the wall we meet on nine calls out of ten: two studs, 5/32-inch pilots, 3/8-inch lag bolts sunk 2.5 inches into solid framing, and the panel is up inside an hour. Cable concealment runs in-wall from the bracket down to a recessed outlet behind the screen, or through paintable trim channel when nobody wants drywall opened.

Plenty of Lilburn's 1970s and 1980s ranches and split-levels have had a wall taken out since, and once the kitchen, the dining area and the den share one volume, a fixed screen only ever faces one of them. An articulating arm fixes that, and it also loads the wall harder than anything else we hang. At full extension a 20-inch arm multiplies the pull on the top anchors, so these go into two studs minimum with 3/8-inch Grade 5 lag bolts, and a 75-inch or larger panel gets a 3/4-inch plywood backer plate spanning three studs behind the wall plate. The remodeled ranches near Rockbridge Road and the updated split-levels along Killian Hill are all wood framing, so the same approach travels across the city. Every arm leaves with a 6 to 8 inch cable service loop and flexible conduit through the arm channel so nothing chafes as the TV swings through its arc. Bonus rooms and dens are the other place these land, usually set a little high on the wall and tilted down toward the seating. The full-motion add-on is +$72 on top of the size rate.

Lilburn evenings tend to start at Lilburn City Park or on the Camp Creek Greenway and finish in front of a screen, and a soundbar is the cheapest improvement available in that room. We mount it on the wall three to six inches under the panel rather than leaving it on the console, keep the IR window clear, and run its cable inside the same stud bay as the TV feed. The connection goes over HDMI eARC where the TV supports it, ARC or optical where it does not, and then we program the TV remote to carry soundbar volume so one remote sits on the table instead of three.
