Lag bolts are 5/16 by 3 inches into stud, four points across two studs past 65 inches. Cable drops the open bay to a recessed plate, and the builder often left an outlet at the right height already. Typical install: 60 to 80 minutes.

Great rooms at this scale invite big screens, and an 85-inch panel is a different job from a 65. It is awkward more than heavy, roughly 75 inches wide with flex across the middle, and it takes two people to hang on the rails. The bracket spans two studs with four 5/16-inch lag bolts minimum, and we check the VESA pattern against the mount before the box is opened, since the largest panels often use a 600 by 400 pattern a mid-size bracket will not accept. Two details get no exceptions here: safety screws through the hooks, and a full-motion arm locked at tilt and extension once the picture angle is set. An 85-inch screen is $299 flat. A full-motion arm on it adds $59-$79. Viewing distance is worth a word too, since 11 feet is comfortable for a panel that size and 7 feet is not. We also clear a landing spot and the path from the door before the box gets opened, because there is no good place to set an 85-inch screen down mid-carry. Big-panel installs run 90 to 120 minutes.
