The lakefront ranches of Land O' Lakes, around Lake Padgett and the other lakes in the chain along US 41, are single-story concrete block with furring strips and drywall, and the lake side of the house is often sliders and windows. That pushes the TV onto a side wall or the wall opposite the lake, and either one is worth a moisture reading before the first hole, because block on a low lake lot can hold moisture. A dry wall gets a small test hole to measure the gap to the block, then a hammer drill and 1/4-inch Tapcons sized to reach the CBS, four on anything 65 inches or larger. Any hollow cell gets a sleeve anchor instead, and every hole through an exterior wall gets sealant. The water also throws light. Late in the day the glare off the lake lands on whatever faces it, so the installer sets a tilt bracket a few degrees down or suggests a full-motion arm that can swing the screen out of the reflection. The upstairs loft is where people get surprised. A loft or game room that looks down on the family room is usually edged with a knee wall, a short 2x4 wall capped with a rail or a ledge. It looks solid, and it will hold a small TV on a fixed bracket if the studs line up, but it was never built for the pull a full-motion arm puts on it, and nothing heavy should hang over a stairwell. Second, the wall. If the media wall was built out in front of the block, the anchors still go into wood, never through the box. Third, the power. The fireplace and the TV both want an outlet in that wall, and a recessed outlet behind the screen keeps the plug from pushing the panel forward. Adding one is an electrician's job. A lanai on a Land O' Lakes lake lot gets used through the long warm season, and the TV out there lives in lake humidity. The mount belongs on the block wall of the house, under the roof, never on the aluminum of the screen enclosure or pool cage, which is built for screen panels and wind, not a hanging TV. The installer drills with a hammer drill and a 3/16-inch bit, fills each hole with sealant and drives 1/4-inch Tapcons, with coated bracket hardware so the damp air does not rust it. The set stays where the sun never lands, and anything in direct light should be outdoor-rated. Humidity also means outdoor-rated cable jackets and connections that point down so water runs off them.
